"how do I screen comments..i just got a bunch of casino and porn garbage"
Option 1: Go to Control Centre->Anti Spam Management->Moderate and enable the plugin
Option 2: Go to Manage->Posts and click on the number in the "CM" column. There you can delete individual comments.
Option 3: Go to Control Centre->Security Management->Content Filter and enable the plugin. Then go to Manage->Blog Security->Add Filtered Content and add words which you do not want allowed in your comments.
Option 4: similar to option 3, but instead of the Content Filter plugin enable the Host Block plugin. Then in Manage->Blog Security->Add Blocked Hosts add any IP addresses you would like to ban from your blog. (To find out the IP address of any offending comments, follow steps from option 2)

... in need of a primer...
I'm sorry to bother you with such totally basic questions, but here it is nonetheless: I want to customize my template, but don't understand the code well enough. What I want to do is a) change the font that my blog name is written in; b) change the image; and c) change the panel color. How do I do that? And what do the buttons along the top of the editing windows mean?
abitlost | 30/06/2006, 04:41
meh, not to sound demanding heh, but do you think in the 'link to us' section you could make my name, Bryan, linked to my blog please?
http://fistfulofsand.egoweblog.com
i was going to ask you to do this LAST summer, but guess i gorgot lol..
eh.. well later..

Deleting old blog
Once you delete an article in your admin area, it will take somewhere between a few hours and 2 days until the blog gets deleted from the database.
administrator | 24/03/2006, 13:05
deleting an old blog?
how can i do this? thanks!
j n | 24/03/2006, 04:01
Disregard my previous comment. I figured out the problem.
Erratic Prophet | 16/02/2006, 12:45
For some reason, and only on some photos, the img style automatically sets to display: none. This, of course, means that no image will be viewed. Whenever I delete the it, it pops right back in preventing my images from being viewed. It's very frustrating. Is this just a problem with firefox?
Erratic Prophet | 16/02/2006, 11:31
Insert resource
You are doing it right. There was a bug, sorry...
Please try again.
Need more help
How do I insert a picture in a post? I uploaded the picture to my resources successfully, and when I write my post, I try to use the "Insert resource" button. A second window opens, I go to the resource I want, click on the tag that says "add preview" and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way to browse all blogs from the main ego page?

Server problems
Yes, there were some hardware issues with the server. They should be resolved now - we changed a few parts, added more memory etc. Sorry for any inconveniences this has caused
administrator | 19/08/2005, 14:22
There seems to be a problem with pages loading lately. I've noticed, and been told by others as well, that sometimes my blog can't be seen at all.

Re: Tagboard
The tagboard is disabled, because of some serious bugs, but you could try out a third party service, like www.tag-board.com. Just take their code and copy and paste it to panel.template using the template editor.
Administrator | 15/08/2005, 15:50
Tagboard...
yes..i would like to run a tagboard on the panel...how would i go about doing that??

error message
i'm running " internet explorer " version 6.0.2900 for use with " windows xp-professional "...upgrades have been service packs 1 & 2...basically my setup options are default settings...surprisingly, i have had a very good stable os and ie platform, compared with some of the " horror " stories, that i have read in various groups that are using " xp-professional & ie 6.0+ "...xp, also has service packs 1 & 2 upgraded...i have tried to get past the error symbol, both with and w/o my firewall and av program activated...the firewall is built in with " xp-pro " and my av program is made by " computer associates "...except for music files, my computer's hard drive is nice and clean, as i use an " iomega external hard drive " to keep info that does not pertain to what i need for " xp-pro " and music...i am using a " dsl " broadband connection and i have had my isp to check everything that they could, that could possibly interfere with online work...for some reason i feel it is something that i may have either chosen the wrong choice, during setup of " ego " which is pretty straight forward...thus my suggestion about deleting the current page and starting from scratch again...i sincerely appreciate your help...another factor, i have had 3 heart attacks, 2 back operations, and i have a very rare blood / liver disease and the medications can really mess up my mind with " mind fog "...so, i'm not able to work up to my usual standards...once again, many thanks !

Re: Error Message
philnc, I created a test article in your blog and it worked fine. I am not sure why it does not work for you. It may be a problem with your browser. Which browser do you use? Please give me more info and I will try to fix this issue asap.

Error Message
i tried eveything that you suggested and still i cannot get rid of that error message and i've written 3 articles and none of them have been picked up, either...it may still be some error that i have made, in setup...so is there a method that my blog can be totally deleted and i can then start from square one as if i were a first time user of a blog ??? as i've checked settings over and over and over, but the results seem to still stem from the original congratulation message, from the beginning...once again many thanks and i do hope that we can get my blog up and running, even if i do have to start all over...
philnc | 26/07/2005, 12:16
philnc, at least one category must be enabled for the front page. It is also good to have at least one article in that category which will be visible instead of the error message.
Btw, you can delete the General category now. Or you can just rename the category if you wish...
Clearing Blog/Start Over
somewhere along the way, i was adding categories and indepth descriptions to go on the main page and i went to take a peek at the page and there was an error symbol, stating that " the articles could not be fetched "...so i cleared all new entries to get back to the beginning but i cannot get rid of that error message...i cannot delete the " general category " and that seems to be the holdup, but nothing is in there - i deleted the congrats message - help would be greatly appreciated on how to get this cleared up, so that i can start with a new clean pallet to mess up again...
philnc | 25/07/2005, 21:44
PhoenixSpeaker, is it possible, that you disabled cookies in your browser? Try to play a bit with the cookies settings in your browser and let me know whether that helped. If not, then I guess that WebTV may not work with EgoWeblog ![]()
In that case try Firefox or IE...
Re: Changing pre-made templates
To change your current template to another pre-made or custom designed template, sign in to the admin area, then go to Control Centre and select Blog Settings. The 7th control is "Template". You can preview the templates by clicking "Choose...". After you select the desired template, click "Update".
administrator | 22/07/2005, 04:20
Hi, slightly confused here, whenever I sign in to admin and click the 'manage articles and resources' link, I just get taken to my blog's main page, rather than the editing stuff. Worse case scenario, is that this is due to me using webtv, but I hope It's just a personal mistake of mine, as this is pretty much the best blog service I've seen. Any help(or 'you cant use this with webtv, dummy' retort), would be much appreciated, thanks. ![]()
Changing pre-made templates
How do I change the template I've got now to one of your other templates. You said I could do this, but I just couldn't do this and there's no Help Menu.
Thanks

Thanks
I just wanted to say thanks for all the help you've given me. My blog's really starting to come together nicely. Good ridance to Blogger!
Though there is somethin that I'm upset about... You guys don't have a 'Link to Us' button!
...
So I took it upon myself to make one... It's one of those new, popular, 80x15 sizes. Often used on blogs.
You guys, or anyone else here, are welcome to use it. I don't mind if you direct link either.
Neither the HTML or the image will show here in the commment. So go to this link to view it...
http://testblog08.blogspot.com/
I know this is kind of irrelevent (this blog is for help), but i didn't know where else to put it.

date format
Wow, I did it - I just totally amazed myself!!! Thanks very much for your help.
cheryl | 06/07/2005, 02:53
Date format
Edit post.template and/or postandcomments.template in the Template Editor. Check whether this line is present:
{assign var="postDate" value=$post->getDateObject()}
Then add this line:
{$locale->formatDate($postDate,"%d %b, %Y")}
to show the date like this: 05 Jul, 2005
Date
Just started my first ever blog so I'm on a steep learning curve! When I post an entry, it puts "Posted by cheryl @ 13:41 " How can I get it to put the date as well as or instead of the time? Thanks.

but can i show it on my front page without it appearing on http://www.egoweblog.com/ under the latest posts section or any of the other list for newest blog etc. i am staring to like this site, the best one i have come accross,
Private blog
To prevent your articles from appearing on the front page, do this in your admin area:
1.) Go to New Post
2.) In the submenu, click New Category
3.) Specify a name and description for the new category
4.) Uncheck the "Show in frontpage" checkbox
5.) Click Add
OR
1.) Go to New Post
2.) In the submenu, click Categories
3.) Select the category, which you yould like to make private
4.) Uncheck the "Show in frontpage" checkbox
5.) Click Update
All articles in these categories will be private.
You can also password protect the "Extended Text" part of your articles. To do this:
1.) Go to Control Centre
2.) Select Secret Post under Security Management and enable the plugin
3.) In New Post use the password_field to create a password for your article
Custom pages in your blog
You can add custom pages to your blog using the template editor. Here is an example:
You want to your resume to your blog. The resume is in a file called "resume.html"
1.) Rename "resume.html" to "resume.html.template"
2.) Upload the file using the template editor upload tool.
3.) Edit other .template files using the template editor to link to your resume:
<a href="{$url->templatePage("resume.html" )}">My Resume</a>

when you submit posts on your blogs it then shows them in this site as well, is there anyway you can switch off not to have them to apear on this site for example a private blog...

Template Editor
Uploading templates is currently disabled, but you can edit the existing templates and change their design completely, switch images, colors, styles, etc.
Login to your account, go to Control Centre and then to Blog Template Editor. You will see the list of global templates. In the last column ("Actions"), you can see two icons - one is "Copy" and the other one is "Screenshot". Use Screenshot to preview the templates, then select the one you would like to edit, click copy and choose a name for your new template. The new template will show up at the bottom of the list. Click on the name of the template to edit. You will see a list of all used files. The most important files are:
* header.template - the page header
* main.template - the body of the page
* panel.template - the menu panel
* footer.template - the page footer
* postandcomments.template - body of articles
* style.css - css styles used in the templates.
Templetes
How do I either change the template I've got now to one of your other pre-made templetes or how do i apply and edited template to my blog?
Bryan | 25/06/2005, 15:56

Customizing
Was wondering how to create custom templates, I downloaded a new one and changed the graphics then re-zipped and uploaded, but is there a way to create one from scratch - are there certain files I need to maintain, can I add a book list like all consuming to the sidebar... things along those lines.
I love the service
, but would like to customize my site a little more. Hopefully I can figure out something a little more custom like my old sitehttp://barefootbloggin.blogspot.com/
