Orientation in the admin area

administrator | 21 April, 2005 23:45

Once you log in to the admin area, click the link labeled "click to manage articles and resources". After that, you will be redirected to the New Post section.

Now, scroll to the top of that page, and look at the menu. The menu looks like the figure below.

NEW POST MANAGE RESOURCE CENTRE CONTROL CENTRE LOGOUT

We will examine what each link does below.

NEW POST: Here you can create new articles, review/edit previous articles, create/edit categories, enable Karma (which is basically a rating for your articles) and moderate comments. There is also a Text Parser for advanced users, who wish to use a different markup language than HTML in their posts.

MANAGE includes everything that's in the NEW POST section, plus more. In the MANAGE section, you can also add/edit links and link categories. The links will then show up in the "Links" section of your blog. If you wish to filter inappropriate content from the comments in your blog, use the content filter located at the bottom of the page. For advanced users is there also a host blocking feature.

Some of these features need be enabled in the CONTROL CENTRE section. (We describe what the CONTROL CENTRE is further down in this document.)

RESOURCE CENTRE is used for uploading resources like pictures and audio or video files. You can organize your files in Albums (galleries/categories). Currently, there is no limit to the number of files you can upload. However, the maximum accepted filesize is 500kb.

CONTROL CENTRE: this is where you control and customize your blog. Change the name of your blog, enable/disable comments etc. or view the traffic statistics for your blog. Add new blog users to your blog and let them write articles or upload images. You can only add a user registered here, at EgoWeblog. All that stuff below are various features/plugins which you can enable or disable at any time. I described some of them in my previous articles and will describe the rest in the near future.

LOGOUT: log-out, obviously...

If you want to add your picture on the side-panel, you will have to use the template editor. You can find it under Control Centre->Blog Templates->Template Editor. Coose a template, click the "Copy" icon and Enter the name of the new template. When the template is created, click the "Edit" icon and open file panel.template or (if not there) footer.template. Add your pic somewhere in the code. You need to use HTML.

Never mind - I figured it out [Reply]

Ok, I figured out how to add my email to the page. Now I am wondering how to stick a picture on the side on the page (where the links are). How do I move the items around on my page (is that possible?) Is there a how-to guide you can direct me to?

Next question [Reply]

Okay, that worked great. Thanks! Now, for my next question (and there will be many to follow): Is there any way I can put a link on my page so that people can send me notes/questions, other than having them post a comment under the post?

spingirl, create a new album first and then you can add new resources.

Uploading pictures [Reply]

I have clicked on the Resource Center tab, but I cannot find where to upload the pictures. I have tried clicking on the "New Resource" tab, but I just get directed by to the "New ALbum" section. Is there something I am missing?
